there are many fine detail book will not teach.

in term of studio shoot. there are many things to consider. where to put the lights, how many lights, how high the lights, what thickness of filter to use or color gels, any fill-in, make-up, hair, theme of the shoot, where the model going to stand, air-con temperature etcccc. you know what i mean. so to me if someone say that he or she is self taught photographer. 'good for them'
Are studio photographers only considered photographers?

photography is based more on hands on approach rather than reading on books. the more you shoot, the more you understand on composition & exposure.

i'm not stepping on somebody tail or toe, just answering the question "Professional self taught photographers ?"

Eg: Lee Hua jewellery adv. in the shop and booklet. i don't think a 'self taught' can do that.

if you think back who'll be the one teaching their master then??

everyone has to start somewhere from zero & develop their own shooting style & post processing. if you insist that photography has to stick to a certain rule taught by someone it's very wrong

Ask your boss does he know Geoff Ang?

Here's what Geoff said in an interview:

I learn everything on my own, through books, through the hard way of trial and error.

For me, I learn through handling of different cameras and self read up on photography books and magazine on the basis. Since young I am in love with photography and used various 35mm film cameras till digital compact cameras. Through trial and error method, I learn the hard ways in getting it right.

This thread is getting meaningless and out-of-hand.

Kultchris was asking a serious and relevant question, but some 'senior' members were giving answers like juniors.
