Default D80 - Katz Eye Installation

Dear ClubSnap members,

i'm interested in purchasing a Kats Eye Micro-prism Focus Screen to replace my scratched D80 focus screen but i'm unsure if i'm able to replace the screen myself, is there anyone here who knows or has done focus screen replacement for D80 before?

i'll like to get the help of fellow CSers to replace the focus screen of my D80 for a small fee if that is acceptable.

Thank you.

Just pop out the holding wire then swap out the focusing screen.

Quite simple one, you can't really screw up. Just be careful about the gold rectangle. You'll know what I am talking about when you open it.

I have my Katz Eye installed on my D200 by Nikon Singapore without charge. Try contact them before you commit your self.

Wow! Kudos to Nikon for even supporting 3rd party focusing screen!

There is this gold rectangle thin piece of metal underneath the focusing screen, between the focusing screen and the viewfinder...

It will tend to stick to the focusing screen when you take it out. Be careful not to lose it and remember to put it back in the same orientation.

Good idea if you are not confident.

But just because NSC installed for someone doesn't mean they will install for you.

3 possible scenarios I can think of:
1. They install for you free.
2. They install for you and charge you labour ($20 or so).
3. They refuse to install for you at all.

Yes, NSC is not obliged to. That's why I'm surprised they did and I think it's a nice gesture on their part.

Yeah, sometimes they can be really nice and sometimes they can be really mean, like when they wanted to charge me $100 for sensor cleaning...

I guess it depends who you are served by...
