Checking New DSLR

Hi, intend to get a D90 within this fortnight. I seek advice on the camera checks required to ensure there is no fault. I heard about dead pixels. How should one go about checking on this? Also much appreciate advice on the brand/model and pricing of dry cabinets for 2 bodies and 4 lenses. Thanks.
