S5Pro with manual focus lens

Dear Fuji S5Pro users,

Happy New Year..

I'm really impressed with some pictures from some experts here and intend to switch camp to Fuji (I'm currently a Canon user). I'm planning to sell my Canon 135/2L lens to fund the body.

As I will use my old carl zeiss jena 58/2 lens, I would like to ask some experts here about mounting manual focus lens into S5Pro body. Is there a problem with the metering? Is there any known issue with focussing?

Welcome to the Finepix Users Network (F.U.N.).

I believe your Carl Zeiss Jena 58/2 lens has a M42 mount. Unfortunately, you cannot use a M42 mount lens straight on a F mount unless you have it converted.

With any AI-S or AI-modified lenses, the S5 Pro should meter fine. The only known issue so far is when using a Carl Zeiss ZF 85/1.4 lens. Some people experience slight overexposure, but this problem has been addressed with the new version 1.12 firmware upgrade.

For manual focus, I highly recommend replacing a spit-prism focusing screen.

dont know fuji using which screen, but on MF lens sometimes i need to up by +2/3 EV to get correct out of camera exposure. something i need to get use to.

I use mainly manual focus lenses and I do not encounter such issue. Your lens may need calibration.

By the way, S5 Pro uses a D200 split-prism screen. You can buy it from Orient Photo, or directly from KatzEye Optics.

exposure is accurate on d300, but not accurate on s5 for manual lens. nothing to do with lens out of callibration, at least most of my ais lens are mint from box condition and have been working well for years on my nikon cams.

when i put on AFS lens, s5 exposure is accurate. orient photo screen is not very good. i have one from last time still in dry cab. my s5 still have warranty, dont want to swop out, later fuji reject warranty, very expensive to pay to repair

i will have to live with dialing in +0.7 ev.

Did you upgrade your firmware to version 1.12? It is suppose to address this problem.

where to get firmware 1.13? mine is 1.12 updated last week

the orient screen on matrix meter is ok, but spot meter, the centre spot can blackout a bit. exposure is not very accurate.

Sorry, that was a typo. It should be firmware version 1.12.

i use to think the meter is at the top of the prism in the viewfinder since times of F series

i dont mean it to be new technology, but as something new to me

i think my F5 meter is in prism at the top.

fuji using d200 focus cam and 1005 rgb meter? maybe fuji different, put the meter above the mirror not above prism. d200/d300 so far to what i know is also above the prism

Yes, the S5 Pro uses the same AF module and light sensors as D200.

The AF sensor module is located within the prism housing, not the light sensors.



Regardless, I may be wrong. So don't take my words too seriously. I will confirm with Mr. Tan of Fujifilm.

Yes, you are absolutely right....

I checked-out with Steven Lee of Camera Hospital today, and he said the 3D Matrix Metering module in newer Nikon F series SLRs and all Nikon DSLRs (including the Fujifilm S5 Pro) is located within the prism housing, above the pentaprism.

However, the light sensors in older Nikon DSLRs such as the FM, FM2, FE, FE2, FG, F, F2 and F3 are located behind and below the mirror.

jus got myself ultron 40mm f2, after sold my 50mm f1.4 nothing wrong with it jus i feel S5 with non-nikon lenses give a different output
still love nikkor 85mm f1.4 , don't know if i will sell it for CZ ...hehehehe
