I have a Ricoh GX100. It's a very lovely camera, I love it to death. Most Ricoh cameras have excellent menu interface. I even like it better than Canon dslrs'. The image quality (at least for my gx100) is excellent on good light conditions. The wide angle 24mm f/2.4 lens and its small size makes it perfect for travels, taking pictures of landscapes, buildings, and group photos of your ugly tour groups. The black & white digital noise on high ISO is also very charismatic. Search for ricoh GRD/GX pictures on flickr yourself.
The bad thing about Ricoh cameras is the high noise in ISO 200 above, so don't hope for good night photography without a tripod. If Ricoh can create a compact as small as gx/grd with a sensor as good as panasonic LX3 (consensus says its the best compact atm), I would be 100% happy with it (It's 85% at the moment). If you are looking to buy a compact right now, I would recommend LX3 than Ricoh's. It's cheaper and has better IQ. I would still buy a Ricoh GX/GRD though. I already fell in love. |

I still think the GX/GR series' controls are quite unparalleled for a PnS except for the recent G10, with its dedicated exposure compensation and ISO dials. I use a GX100 too. Oh yeah, the GX/GR takes AAA batteries too for emergency cases, quite an engineering feat I must say.

I likw to use Ricoh GX100 in terms of ergonomic, menu if compare to Panasonic LX3, but it lose out in the f/2.0 and ISO noise control.

I am wondering if users who ditched/sold off their DSLRs and gotten GRDII/GX-200 will miss the shallow DOF/bokeh (from fast lenses) and high ISO performance of the DSLRs?

myself, and the GRD/GX owners that i know, have our Ricohs as complementary cameras in addition to our regular kit.
need to maximize the capabilities of the respective equipment. shot this with GX-100, would have been far more troublesome with a DSLR. |

Just wondering if any GRD users here find the GV-1 viewfinder a good accessory or just one that looks good?

If I remember correctly at recent Ricoh roadshow, GX100 is selling $999. Gx200 and the rest are above $1K. Anyway do not go direct to Ricoh coz you will be ripped off...try the smaller scale camera shops, can get better deals like extra memory cards and batteries. Just some extra cheap treats...

I don't know if this is relevant, but this little project of mine should entice ppl to start looking for cheap 2nd hand gx100s.
I modified my gx100 to shoot infrareds. Took out the internal hotmirror and readjusted the autofocus. Since I don't like using adapter tubes (too much hassles, not too mention the camera would no longer be compact), I bought the lenscap LC-1 and cut a hoya IR/Red & tiffen hotmirror filter at 2.4cm size and stick it on the lens using doublesided tape. Sample pics in http://reim1o.deviantart.com |

A prominent Ricoh-focused Internet forum is getting started on a "Ricoh Around the Globe" project, where they will send a Ricoh R10 camera around the world... unfortunately, I'm not in Singapore but I still think it'll be interesting for the camera to take some snapshots of our admittedly beautiful Singapore city landscape!
The Google Map of the tentative journey is here: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...,78.046875&z=4 For more information, the forum thread is here: http://ricohforum.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1820
