Default What's a good upgrade from a D50?

Not that I will be upgrading my D50 any time soon, but just wondering what would be a good model to upgrade to if I have both auto and manual lens.

I tried my friend's D200 and the big LCD screen really makes a big difference. I'm also keen on the self cleaning feature of the newer cameras.

Lets say my budget is $1000 to $1500 SG/AU (whichever) just for the body.

Thanks!

With your budget, you can buy a D90 with even bigger LCD and good ISO performance.

What about a D200 or D300? Do they all have live view as well?

D3, D3x, D700, D300 and D90 have LV....the rest don't have.
All these comes with 3" LCDs

Thanks for that, it seems that the D90 is the one to go for I guess.

I was a D50 user, if you prefer a smaller DSLR, the D90 is about the same size as the D50 compared to the D300.

HTH.

If you already have many SD cards, and no buying CF cards, D90 is the way to go.

D200/D300 are better choice for metering with your manual lens. Save time on trial and error on exposure.

Sounds like you're edging towards a Nikon D90. It fits all your conditions.

Yeah I think so too

I made a mistake, my friend's camera is the D300, that would be even better except it takes CF card instead of SD

Nikon D3 is like 5 times the price of the D90, and is not even a logical upgrade from a D50. Plus it still uses CF cards.

Nowadays, the memory card are so cheap. This should not be part of the consideration. Beside, upgrading from a D50 (6mp) to a newer cam (10mp or 12mp), you will need to buy a higher capacity card as well due to the bigger file size.

D200 or D300 is a better choice as it has auto metering for your manual lenses if you intend to use it.

Well if that is the case then I should accept the 5D from my uncle for free.

Just that I don't want to use a Canon.
