Default Macro with Flash (SB-600)

Got myself a Nikon SB-600 and tried some macro photography with it.

Here's my setup,
D40 + 105mm micro + SB600 (with diffuser cap). Handheld.

Forgot to change ISO to lowest (200) and ended up shooting entire day in ISO Auto... Wanted to bang wall after reaching home.

C&C most welcome. Especially advice on how to use SB600 properly. It's pretty much trial & error now and the results are not satisfying.

#1. ISO800, f/13, 1/60

#2. ISO800, f/14, 1/60

Took this shot and realised afterwards that it was carrying eggs. Eggs are OOF though.

#3. ISO800, f/14, 1/60

Weird fly that was waving its forelegs around in different patterns. Think it was praying to strike 4d.

#4. ISO800, f/8, 1/60

Really like this shot of a dragonfly feeding, but too bad eyes are OOF.

#5. ISO800, f/14, 1/60

Dragonfly playing peekaboo with me.

I'm pretty sure I was shooting in f/8 - f/11 but for some reason some shots are showing f13-14 in the metadata. Think I need to check camera settings more often...
