Just bought the Raynox DCR-250 lens from a fellow csnapper, Vincere. Did not manage to use it at Kuching, went back and tried it out at Tanjung Puteri, JB. Hopefully, I can improve using this lens. Despite the tiresome focusing, it is very impressive what the outcome reveals. This lens will surely be used in future. Any feedbacks and constructive criticsms are welcomed. All shots taken with a Canon Powershot S5 IS + the Raynox. No flash fired. Ah yesh, the postprocessing was intentionally carried out as viewed. Very bright and vivid Those aren't overexposed, just a different way to represent my style I guess. Any scientific help with the species of the floral and fauna are greatly appreciated. 01. ![]() 02. ![]() 03. ![]() Last edited by velasco; 28th December 2008 at 01:52 PM. |

#1 has the most promise. Buds are sharp, probably would get a closer crop and leave out the top left.
The rest of the flower shots, the buds are OOF, and my view is going all over, not knowing what is it you want the viewer to see. #6 way over exposed to lost of details. Whether your style or not, for macros, you want to show details. Nice jumping spider shots. Background leaf a bit reflective....sometimes can't be help what leaf they rest on. Like #9; good focus, well exposed, good composition

yessaa! i so wished you commented with your macro prowess. i love 1 too. i would try shooting more of those top view. i agree with all the OOFness. How do you guys shoot? Tripod or handheld? I cannot have a sturdy balance when squatting. lol. I either need to lose weight or just practice more. I hope I'm focusing the right way. Move my camera closer and further and so on to get the right focus, About the reflective leaves , yesh grr, the right portions are irritating hehe. Lucky I had to do away with flashes that would bring in more unwanted problems. And are those jumping spiders? They look like insects with spider eyes. 9- yesh the most satisfied shot I have had in a long time ![]() |

Yes the black ones are Ant-mimicking Jumping spiders, similar to the ones I recently posted: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=454539

Hi Velasco,
My shots still got lots lots lots lots......area need to improve =.=.... Too newbie to give any suggestion The choice still yours lah. Personally I like #13 - but if who caterpillar is in focus will be better? #14 - Its......look....funny ! haha i mean that caterpillar! with this front view dont know how to put words on this pic...#15 - It'll will be nice if the background is clean. Abit OOF around the head (top) right? Can share what is the aperture, shutter speed for these pics? I like the background colours looks smooth and soft ^ ^ Last edited by JC1808; 28th December 2008 at 10:58 PM. |

those are all ranges from 2.6 to F4. i did not dare go higher i want the shallow DOF, if i step up higher, albeit the full focus, it will be too dark and the low shutter speed cant compensate. shutter speed are around 1/20 as i use ample amount of natural light. hehe im loving the soft bg too ![]() |

My choice will be 13 and 14.
![]() I'm surprised you took at F4 and 1/20s, handheld? Very steady if its handheld! You could probably get more in focus and still maintain the smooth background at a smaller aperture.
