I am posting this threat pertaining to the Photoshoots section in the CS forum. Many of the shoot organisers have becoming more cheesy. I am unsure if cheesy is the right word. Many of the thread uses the term, sexy, seduction...etc.. to attract "photographers".

By the way, what kind of photographers are they trying to attract by using these terms? Also, the organiser tried to associate these terms with student, office lady & etc...What are you people trying to market / position your activity? This a lousy marketing tactic. By positioning your activity in this manner, in directly may affect the so call models wannabe. Does organiser has to use such low means to attract "photographers" to shoot? How are these "models wannabe" be perceived as? With all the photos flooding in the CPU of one "photographers"? In this digital era, files can be exchanged in a snap of a finger...

Now, think about it. I think we need to have some respect for yourself and for others...

Stop using these cheesy terms...it's "disgusting". I have never participated in these shootouts and never will...

we never learn from past mistakes.

we are aware of this and measures are in process
basically it is already tamer than before

what we need is the co-operation of the whole community
if the community votes with their wallet and these "marketing" tactics does not generates into $$$
then i am sure, that by nature of market forces the organisers will move on to different marketing tactics.

but the problem is, we have willing participants, willing organisers and willing "posers"

suddenly the gwcs will put down their camera, think for a moment and become photographers?

does not help that some of these organisers are using cheap pricing compared to real quality shots, with much more experienced models. how many people are going to look beyond the fact that getting keeper shots rather than "record shots" of the time they pointed their lens at some sweet young thing is actually better for everyone?

I guess the sheep is also tempted by the short term gain...and willing to take the risk to graze at wolf's den.

It just show how shallow the organisers are who uses these terms...they are no different from pimps.

They have distorted photography and uses photography for their personal gain! Shame on them!

don't worry, it won't be long before the people who love these shots come in to defend them, and claim that is a free market, that we should all embrace it. also they will use other examples where sexual appeal is used to generate revenue to justify their inability to have a control over their testosterone.

free market is free market, but we're just expressing our opinion, and we're free to it too.

The TS has a good moral ground and stand and I too subscribe to his statement.

I love portraiture and model photography but i doubt i'll ever pay for one.

Shooting friends are the way to go for me I'm lucky to be a student so there are a good deal of females around who make great candidates, even if inexperienced. There is far more rapport and space for experimentation for the latter than one between a photog to another model who expect so much out of each other (me thinks).
These model shoots have many photogs getting the same shots, and we're paying for it. And then, (i think) some even have all the lighting equipment set up for you. No freedom for creativity for the photog!

The organizers expect to get a good amount of decency around their models when their sales pitch involves something like what a seedy escort agency would use, and that's the part i can't understand.

actually, to be fair, i think the ones that actually bother to have lighting equipment set up (properly) do it pretty well.

certain shots tend to give good quality outputs. certain shots tend to give substandard, snapshottish outputs. stick around long enough, you'll get what i mean.

i personally feel that the photoshoot should just state the theme. if it is a student-themed shot, then call it a student-themed shot. don't need to put stuff like sexy, etc.

that said, even then, i don't really think it will solve the problem of supply and demand, but at least it will not be so blatant. the quality of the themes are really bleh bleh bleh sometimes. i recall a recent policewoman shot looking as though it is just skimpily dressed girl holding gun?
