Great Knot is an uncommon winter visitor to Singapore as most will know by now. During my annual leave, I was fortunate to have the company of Johnny Wee to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (SBWR). (One set of images taken that day was posted earlier under “Birds in the rain” http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=437868 ).
The story continues from the part that we were caught in the rain at Hide 1C. When the heavy rain changed to light drizzling, Johnny decided to check out Hide 1D. I wanted to try my luck at Hide 1C, so we agree to keep in contact by our handphones. Birds came and went but I did not really get a shot I like of the Great Knot. I prefer to photograph the subject doing something. In fact after the rain, the Great Knot was no where to be seen at Hide 1C. Then Johnny appeared at Hide 1C and said he could not reach me on my handphone. This is a case of weak signal at SBWR that day. He said the Great knots were at Hide 1D. This image taken at Hide 1D is one of my favorite of the Great Knot. It was feeding and the ripples caused by rain drops added interest to the otherwise plain (dull) background. These birds move so fast and under low lighting condition, enforced my decision that going full frame is the right choice. I continue to be impressed by the high ISO performance of Nikon D3. Then again, the camera is nothing compared to the great friends that I have around me. I know I am a very fortunate person. Taking this opportunity to wish everyone Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May you and your family have good health, peace, prosperity, hope and everlasting happiness. Wishing next year will be a better year for all of us and everyone living in this lovely planet called Earth. Cheers! ![]() Image taken with Nikon D3, AFS500mm/f4DII + TC-17EII, ISO1600, F/6.7 @1/640s ![]() Last edited by skfoo; 25th December 2008 at 10:07 PM. |

Nice photo, like it a lot. The ripples do made the whole image much more interesting. Do you have a horizontal version of this picture? I felt the horizontal version might work better but I might be wrong.

Good catch, SK. Like the vertical composition of the pic, and the ripples on the water surface. Thanks for sharing, Merry Xmas to you too.
