not bad for the feel, as for the weight, itz not that heavy can live wif it...

You probably like the weight more later, as it helps to balance off heavy lens

    Yes, quite true.

It would be more balanced with the grip on.

Get use to it bro, some veteran down here will tell you forget about being a photographer if weight is an issue. Months down the road, you will love the weight - stability

hmm.. i got the BG-E5 together with the 2nd hand camera ( the CS-er talked me into buying the VG as a bundle ). lol. but feel abit heartache cos it just doesn't justify the price i'm paying.. don't mind the grip and chicken wings.

any idea for how much can it be sold? it's totally brand new =/

    I got one because:

    1) Big guy big hands for a 450D. Got it to have a better grip.
    2) Using a 24-105mm most times and is unbalanced without the grip.

    Cheers!

well the reason is boughtone is because

I can only use 1 canon battery in it and it still operates.
easier to shoot in portrait mode
I have the option of using 2 canon batteries if I need it for the whole day.

I second Zac on this. Not that I'm against using 3rd party grips. If you notice, most of the 3rd party grips are too plasticky and I wouldn't bet on putting my expensive lenses when mounted on tripod using plastic grips. That was the very same reason I sold my brand new Phottix and bought an MB-D10.

No I don't. Imho, it is a bit heavy with the equipment that I used.

Yes I own one, and I found it very useful in the following situations:

    1. portraits. like what has been mentioned before, the 'chicken wing'
    pose is no more! =)

    2. better grip. I have a pair of big hands, so the grip offers me more
ergonomic means of holding and handling the camera.

    3. better stability. When I use my telephoto lens (70-200 f/2.8 IS)
there is a great bending moment because of the sheer weight of the
lens, and the grip offers a pretty good 'counter-weight'.

    4. assignments. I can use two batteries at the same time and the they
usually last pretty long! no more missed opportunities.

    5. travel. Certain countries have different power plugs and in the
event that you're not able to charge your lithium batteries, you can
conveniently grab high-powered AA batteries and you're back in action!

v-grip got some advantages for me...

    - i like to shoot in portrait mode and i dislike having my right arm lift up
    - my hands are big so having v-grip allow me to have a better grab of my camera...

Battery grips are the way to go for portraits and vertical shots. Balance out heavier lenses and best of all, no more chicken wings!
