    Looks more pro.
I say the lens is the soul of a camera. What about the body? Well, it's just the body...

To have enough energy for all day long of snapping.
But, also to be able to use AA battery format. Since my camera is an old one, just in case someday later I can't get a spare battery anymore.

For the heavy part, if you don't plan to go for a long session, just remove the vertical grip.

I'd say it's a nice to have, not necessarily a must have

normally inside must put how many AA batts?
It will last a few times more shots than the original lithium batt?

When the vertical grip is in use, it will only drain the AA batts rather than the lithium batt? Or is there a switch for me to choose?
And will it help to give / support power to my flash unit?

    nope

One of the reason why i switched from a D200 to a D90 was the weight factor. Besides, i tried out the MB-D80 and imho, the 'feel' is disappointing

If I were to get a vertical grip, the reasons will be:
    1. A more stable grip when shooting in potrait format.
    2. More power options (2x Li-ion Batteries, AA batteries etc)
    3. Achieving 8fps (Applicable to Nikon D300 and Nikon D700)

    I love my vertical grip

It gives me a more stable grip when shooting in potrait format, and improve the framing alignment.
My pics are always slightly tilted alittle while shotting in potrait position before getting the vertical grip

I own a battery grip.... use it only when shooting wedding and assigment which need me to carry my camera with me the whole day... else I rather don't use it... it was rather heavy... good thing is that I shoot whole day long without changing batt with the grip...

Mainly better when shooting in vertical orientation, and longer battery life.

the additional weight & space it takes up is 2 big minus for me. personally, i do not need that much extra power nor do i find orientating the cam much of a hassle (its still faster than changing lenses).

    my 2cents.

personally as I believe the battery will last longer, though the indicator doesn't really state the true battery life.

its more balanced with my flash and easier to take vertical shots with tele lenses.

I think the batt grip really tackles the issue of "chicken wing syndrome" very well - Enables a much more stable shooting posture.

With 2 batteries inside the batt grip, I can tahan a whole of shooting without going flat out.

Lastly, it balances the weight of the lens and body.

With the grip... the weight is more balanced when I use the 80-200 f/2.8 lens, and it also gives a better grip when shooting portraits

Do not underestimate the importance of "just to look pro".

Especially when there're paying clients involved.
