Default Help! How to digitize film negative on scanner

hi!

hope all the guru's can help me with my dilemma

Im new in film photography but has been using digital DSLR for quite sometime now..I want to try film because I like the feel of the picture produced by film...I also want to digitize the film negative to be able to present it in the net (friendster, blog, etc, etc.)

However, I have no idea how to do it...

My first question:

1. After consuming the 36 roll of negative, do I have to send it to kodak or fuji to be developed first?...only then I can use the negative for scanning?

2. Whats the proper procedure of scanning negatives right after the 36 rolls has been cosumed?

will really appreciate your help on this matter

thank you

1. Yes. have to send to any photo studio to develop the negs first before scanning.

2) Not sure what you mean by proper procedure but you can always get the lab to scan for you after developing the negs if you are too lazy to scan them yourself. For scanning negs you will need either a flat bed scanner capable of scanning negs (Canon/Epson has a couple of models capable of doing so) or a dedicated film scanner which will be very expensive.

I believe it's around $3 - $4 per roll. Not too sure since I have not shot 135 format for more than 10 years now. Now shooting only digital or 120 format only.

Useful addresses of common photographic equipment/services shops

most labs still doing processing of film service, just ask for processing and scan to CD, the total cost is less than $10 per roll, if you ask for high res scanning will cost more. Just give them a call for price details.

btw, is a roll of 35mm film with 36 exposure, not 36 roll, (36 roll of 36 exposures is total 1296 frame)

Hi. It was some time ago, but I recall it costs $12 for developing the film and scanning service.

$5.50 at Ruby Photo (opposite Peninsula Plaza) for negatives and $6 for slides, requires waiting for a few days but this is the only shop I trust with my negatives. I've had bad experiences with neighbourhood photo labs, which developed my film and left hand prints and scratches all over. Very angry.

For scanning, you can try Fotolab (Beach Road), they can do 4-based and 16-based scanning. Sorta like low res and high res scanning, their services aint cheap, but service is very good.
