Question Why is the world not at peace?

World Unity so to say or is it just a wishful dream for humankind?

Do we need a world theology to guide us toward unity so that we live in harmony, prosperity and happiness?

Following are just some pointers for considerations:

    1. Complete understanding of faiths and its traditions.

    2. Common theme and contrasting position on similar topics.

    3. Deeper understanding of the topic from various resources rather than from one single tradition.

    4. Contributions to humankind's understanding of truth which transcends any particular expression.

    5. Finding common teachings and common attitudes towards life, death, and ultimate ends.

    6. Ability to promote tolerance of, and respect for, other faiths.

    7. Finding peaceful solutions to disputes which might otherwise degenerate into dangerous fighting and conflict.

    8. To overcome the sterile, materialist outlooks and philosophies of our present day.

    9. To rediscover the spiritual foundations of values and traditional spiritual wisdom found in all faiths.

Caution: This is not a discussion on religions or one's belief for this will violates CS rules and moderators will just wind this up too soon.

Since the world is always not at peace, is there something man can do to live more peacefully and happily?

Next to impossible due to the wide variance in Education style, method and wide cultural diversification and environmental influence that will shape individual perception.

    2. Common theme and contrasting position on similar topics.

    3. Deeper understanding of the topic from various resources rather than from one single tradition.

    4. Contributions to humankind's understanding of truth which transcends any particular expression.
As mentioned above. Education and social & cultural diversification is almost a definite factor in influencing personal perception.

    5. Finding common teachings and common attitudes towards life, death, and ultimate ends.
Even within a monotheism religion like Islam and Christianity, there exists different denominations. Although these 2 major religions hold a belief of a single God, within it exists different doctrines for these 3 subjects u'd mentioned. Much less for polytheism religions and philosophical religions.

    6. Ability to promote tolerance of, and respect for, other faiths.
This stems more like an innate human behaviour rather than a discord sowing from religion. Religious difference is more like an convenient excuse for Mankind to literally kill each other.

    7. Finding peaceful solutions to disputes which might otherwise degenerate into dangerous fighting and conflict.
So say the word 'Diplomacy'. However Diplomacy these days is more like maintaining and forging interests.

    8. To overcome the sterile, materialist outlooks and philosophies of our present day.
Materialist outlook & philosophies? It also possibly stems from educational and environment factors.

    9. To rediscover the spiritual foundations of values and traditional spiritual wisdom found in all faiths.

As the world tries to move towards this angle in the past 10 years, it had actually moved towards a more dangerous edge than that of enlightenment.

On a more physical note, if all of Mankind were to seek complete and unconditional peace between all nations, these are the necessary physical steps (next to impossible to fulfill though):
    - Complete and unconditional removal of all artificial national borders, CIQ checkpoints and passports
    - Complete erasure of individual names of all nations, maintaining a common identity of Terrans/Earthlings instead
    - Shutdown of all Weapons, Firearms and all Arms, Military and Security Installations and Industry
    - Complete disbandment of all para-military, military and all security related apparatus and organisations.
    - Absolute removal of any society ideology, regardless of Juche, Communist, Socialist, Democracy whatsoever. Ideologies shape the individual perspective and thinking which in turn shape the hands that will shape the environment.
    - Removal of human desires, self-interests and negative energy emotions. A primary source of all conflicts in the world. Like what Yoda says, "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering."
    - Politics! We all claim that it is next to impossible to remove politics even in daily life. But still where do politics stem from? Our inherent likes and dislikes of one or others that's related to the above point as well as the topic of interests!

I don't really think religion is the source of conflict in the world today. The real reason why Mankind is at war with itself is primarily a war of politics and interests.

cos we have games like this...

    http://www.callofduty.com/CoDWW

what to do? human history is made up of war chronicles... there isn't a time that there was no war or battles. Even now, we achieve globalisation, there is still differences somewhere around the world, and everyone is just waiting for some fight to go on. And people will be marvelling at the new weapons or admiring war machines of yesteryears...

as long as there is a little greed, a little ambition, a little lust, a little empowerment, a little aggression, a little... then it will a little by little becomes a big big threat...

Differing agendas of the human-race, which can be classified into

    a) religious
    b) political
    c) social
    d) ideological
    e) economic

How are you going to have peace when u have over 6 billion people on earth. Dont talk about nations coming together. Nor a country, nor a community. The lowest denominator, which is a family unit, already there are many families with conflicting views.

eep! Sounds like Anarchy to me

Besides, without an overarching authority, there is no 'social contract' among man, a theory introduced by philosopher Thomas Hobbes. To put it in the words he wrote in his book: Leviathan, without any form of authority, “ the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short ”

    your question is your answer

I always beleive that if there is a way to synchronize all living beings to think of nothingness we might be able to get out of this vicious illusion.

Because we were all given the "Free Will". That is where differences arises, and that is why the world will never attain the peace it dreams of.

With an authority (or many authorities) to bind people, there will always be 'deemed oppression' as long as Mankind holds some twisted concept to 'freedom'. As such, given Mankind's inherent nature for warfare & conflict, there can never be complete peace in the world.

Which was why I smiled when I was watching a BBC documentary on Hiroshima (the one about the A-Bomb) the other day and there was this particular footage showing a newspaper boy distributing papers that has the big bold print: "WAR IS OVER"

It made me wonder at the end of WWII had Mankind truly understood the lessons learnt from 2 Great Wars or have we taken the ideology of politics up to the next new dirty level?

Actually, there is some truth to this at least according to a science article. Humans are innately programmed and evolved to fight other competitors to gain an advantage to survive..

It is human nature to be in authority and power, so creating belief system is one proven way to bind people. The twisted concept to "freedom" can be seen whole heartedly in the so called "Liberty" so pronounced in the West.

The meaning of the word "liberty" in the Oxford dictionary:
the state of being free (from imprisonment, control, government by others etc); right or power to decide for oneself what to do. how to live etc., such as "They fought to defend their liberty".

Perhaps that's the reason for the never ending warfare and conflict. Is there really true "liberty" for human beings living in any country on this earth?

Openly the more advanced powerful countries constantly seeking to stop others from building and producing dangerous weapons in an ever cunning methodology system is questionable.
