I'm interested in building a darkroom and developing and making my own prints at home. But I don't really know what equipment and skills are needed. Where can I purchase enlargers and all the equipment needed for a darkroom? Are there resources out on the web or books that i can read to learn more about the art of making prints and developing? Im currently a student so i really need to make informed choices before spending my money. Thanks in advance!

How I learnt is just by reading books, go to the national library, there are quite a few books intended for darkroom. Just read a few and you'll know what you need.
Enlargers your only source will be 2nd hand, just do a quick search you might find a few gems. Cost wise should be easily <$500. ALLLLL my darkroom equipment is 2nd hand (some 3rd or 4th). The only thing that is new are the chemicals. More importantly, can you get a room/space in your house big enough and yet suitable enough to be lightproofed? You'll need power supply and water supply as well. Only if it's feasible then you can consider purchasing the equipment necessary to make your own darkroom. |
