Let me be the first one to comment

IMO, the furthest you can achieve with a compact would be learning about composition and probably basic camera knowledge (as what i experienced using a prosumer). With a lot of help from Photoshop, you may achieve much more interesting result by touching up the photos (plenty of online tutorials on this subject).

As for your shots themselves, i find the first shot to be strangely composed, the building takes too much portion of the shot even though it's clearly underexposed. You might need to get to higher storey if your intention is to capture the sunrise. On the other hand, if that's not really your intention, then you're on the wrong side of the building because by facing the sun you lost all the shadows, early morning sun can create such beautiful shadows to emphasize what's your intention of taking photo.

For the second shot, if your intention is by creating frame between the object you tried to capture, i just feel it doesn't serve the purpose very well. The shadow's not clear enough since you chose a flat building as an object.

If by any chance you use a prosumer with aperture priority, shutter speed priority or manual, don't hesitate to play around with the settings to experiment with the result.

I myself am a beginner in photography and still learning to master every aspects of it.

My 2 cents worth of opinion.

hi Icarock,

maybe you could try getting out into the streets or looking for a subject? what i mean is, maybe u could photograph with an intention?

or, if you would like a critique, maybe you could tell us what your intention for taking these pics are... as now... no idea what you're trying to do...

if you would just like to experiment with effects, perhaps you could try a lomography forum...
