Which lens is always on your camera?
![]() Why do you keep that lens on? Sharp qualities? Large aperture? Good range? What photos do you take and which lens covers your needs the most - discuss! |

I'll start with mine first -
FA 50mm 1.4, good value for a fast, compact lens! Not overly telephoto-ish on a 1.5x crop and though not the sharpest wide open, can be stopped down slightly to around 2.8-4.5 for sharper images when critically needed. One of the more value-for-money AF lens that most Pentax users should have in their line-up! (Supposing you don't use something in that range already) |

SMC M 50mm f1.7
Sharp, versatile, metallic, small and most importantly... cheap! (I'd vote for the FA* or DA* primes if I could afford them) ![]() |

All my lenses gets a chance, depending on what the situation calls for. 50/1.4 for non-flash low light situation, baby shots, da21 or 40 for that walk-around, da 70 for that walk-around portrait, da 35 for some copying work and product shots, fa 77 for that magical portrait, sigma 1770 for the events and travel. Hmm, guess my m28 and m135 abit under-utilised.

I have a cheap A50/2 lens mounted on my K20D right now
Used to use a normal lens like 43, 50 on my cam most time. But nowadays I kinda like to use zooms (FA2870 and 80200) a lot for the convenience. |

General all-purpose: DA35 marco.
Others are more specialist uses: landscape 10-20, 21.. portrait 50, 70 and so on. But then, even the 70 can be used to shoot landscapes, which I've done to good effect. So it depends. If I know what I'll be shooting, I'll take a 'specialist' lens. If not, the DA35, which is usually on my K100Ds I carry daily.

I was using DA21 as the "cap" before. Light weight and good image quality.
Recently my cap is DA*16-50, but having a hard time to decide to keep it or not. Too heavy as a default lens... |

For a light setup on the K20D, the FA 20-35 is really versatile for most shots, and it was literally on my K20D all the time until I got hold of the DA 12-24 (not exactly the lightest setup though).

For what I have been shooting nowadays, the F300 is on my camera most of the time. Other times I will have the DA1650 and 50135 zooms for the convenience.

DA*16-50mm
I have chosen to work with 1 big, heavy, versatile lens rather than changing lens all the time (if I had chosen to own a set of DA/FA limiteds instead). The range is ideal for the more landscape-ish kind of pictures I take, and it can do decent flower close-ups and protraits. IQ and build are excellent. It only stays home if I'm going out for a dedicated macro or low-light shoot. Or if I decide to give my other lenses some exercise. |

most of the time, it has got to be DA21. Versatile, light weight, compact to bring everywhere. nothing particular in mind to shoot, easy to put in my bag.
If I want to shoot something specific, then I will use my other glasses.. cheerss.. |

The DA21 was my 1st choice till I got the DA35, but I must say it's a darn close fight. In fact, if my DA21 isn't on loan now, it might be on the cam instead of its 'rival'. :P

DA21 for me too! Its on my camera most of the time now. When I go out, I bring along the DA40 and use it occasionally. Hardly use the DA70 though as I seldom take those type of portrait shots.
But on overseas holidays, I would likely only bring the DA18-250 along for the versatility and lack of hassle. ![]()
