Hi all, i am torn between these 2 nice pieces of glass:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...specifications http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._5_ED_SWD.html i can't find any threads relating to them together = ( but i remember reading somewhere that Microsm said that Sigmas are bad and only decent for their long primes.. Any ideas abt them? |

think away from glass quality 1st, 50-200 give you a better range and infact good IQ through out the whole range. built quality... ZD 50-200 provide weatherproof and dustproof which worth big money. Sigma... I dun think they have this built. yes, 70-200 give you constant F2.8 whereas 50-200 is F2.8-3.5 but for me, I never find it a big issue. heard some where that Sigma lens always need calibration? not sure whether ZD need to calibrate so often or not. (please correct me if I am wrong in this point.) macro function... erm I still prefer prime macro lens.

I remember reading somewhere on this forum also that Sigma lenses have a yellow colour cast. Was it microcosm who said it?
![]() Personally, I'll get the Zuiko Digital too.

Basically I think that TS was attracted to constant F2.8. From F2.8 to F3.5 is 2/3 stop of light which doesnt really affect too much. Weather proof, glass quality, SWD motor, I think Oly is still better. Oly SWD lens 20MP ready. Sigma ???

I like the range of 50-200. The 70mm starting focal length is not very flexible and hard to use as a walk around lens

I bought the 50-200 SWD just last week. I was never really interested in Sigma, but I tell you, now I could really not care less about it.
The 50-200 is just wonderful.

Sounds like 50-200 zuiko with a overwhelming win.
I was interested in Sigma coz of the price, lol But after looking at the responses and checking the weight... i think zuiko is a much better choice. Sigma is 1.5kg... WTH, zuiko is only 900g++ with SWD! thanks a lot guys... i will buy it when i reach US. regards JJ |

israel, I let this sale discussion slip this time but please, everyone, let's put sales thread in the relevant areas (there is a section for this purpose) and use that please. Makes my life difficult as a moderator as the others would challenge and question why I let the post through in this section while it is clamed down heavily with infractions in other sections. I think I should follow house rules set in ClubSNAP and therefore I hope all would respect ClubSNAP and the rules and regulations regarding such post/matters.
Your cooperation is appreciated. My apologies for deleting all posts earlier with regards to the sale, and once again, use the Buy and Sell section for any future transactions and I will delete such postings in future without further explanation ok? These are house rules set by admin team of ClubSNAP, something that I have to adhere too as well. Thanks for your attention and understanding.

You can try calling Olympus Singapore to see if they have old stocks for the old glass (non-SWD version). If I remembered correctly, they had a stockpile of them in the past... they still might have them... so the selling price might be very competitive. I don't have the office number, so you might have to search for their contact information online or through the Yellow Pages or something. Cheers.
