Hi
Does the 602Z have some problem working with regular CF cards? I read something in the manual which said that some CF cards may not work properly with the 602Z. When I am shooting movies, sometimes the recording stops by itself and a !BUSY warning appears. In the manual, it says that it means the card was not formatted on the camera, but I suspect that it is because I am trying to use CF instead of microdrive. Does anyone know which CF cards work with 602Z? I tried with Transcend 256MB, ridata 128MB and ridata 256MB, all of the have this problem of terminating the recording before I press the shutter release a second time. The transcend fails the quickest, usually after 15s or so. The Ridata's tend to last longer, but still fail maybe after about 1 minute. Or is this a problem with my 602Z? Taking photos is fine, it's just the video that has some problem. Thank. |

Unlimited recording is not officially supported on for CF cards on the 602. The recommended media is a microdrive although some users have experienced success with 24X and above CF cards.
Reformatting the CF and changing the cluster size is said to help in some cases. http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=28192 |

I was able to record continuous video with a Transcend 30x card. Ridata required some workaround though - reformatting with a different cluster size solved the problem.

PQI 40x and Transcend 30x allows recording to the max. 20x or faster ones could record to the max if you do a reformatting.

Question on reformatting the CF card.
Had read the thread http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthrea...light=reformat. Not sure this is the correct way to reformat the CF and change the cluster size to 32bit. Can anyone confirm on this before trying ? |

should be 32K, not 32 bit. btw, don't format to FAT32 format. I think it won't work on the 602Z.

format e: /a:32k /q where e is the drive letter assigned to the cf reader or s602z. /a indicates the cluster size and /q indicates a quick format. This defaults to formatting FAT and not FAT32, at least on my win2k machine. Just experiment, I don't think your CF will spoil because of this. If your CF becomes unreadable, just use your s602z to format the CF and everything should be fine again. BTW, I just got myself a s602z and this works on it! ![]() Last edited by sabre; 14th October 2003 at 10:35 AM. |

For those who dread using the using the start->run or DOS command prompt, there's another way to format in windows 2000. Use your Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Disk Management. Just choose the drive that represents your CF, right-click, choose format and it pops up the options for you to select for formatting. BTW for your reference, I'm using a kingston CF and the cluster size I use is 32k. I can't get to format the CF to anything above 32k cluster size though. |
