I'd love a photo frame.
After size (15" makes a really beautiful photo frame), then colour reproduction is most important- that's difficult to assess with numbers. AFter that its maximum viewing angles which are usually very poor on photo frames (they often use the lowest quality LCDs) I bought this for someone in the States: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...specifications Smartparts is a good brand in the US. it was the 2007 version and the colours looked perfect, pretty similar to my calibrated monitor which is saying a lot. Trouble is the 2008 version has lost a lot of the features like shuffle, etc. Jus' my 0.02c |

At least 10" size and 1024x768, standard rechargeable batteries or external power supply. Saw the Braun Digiframe 150: 15" size. Not budget class but really nice

...was at a toshiba demo for colour laser copier, the door gift include a digital frame, I cannot imagine the cost to be more than $100, should be within $50, there were about 50-60 invited guest...they also gave away a Toshiba laptop and ipod as lucky draw prizes.
(At another demo during the IT fair, they gave a way a Canon printer as door gift....but i missed that....ooops OT) |

To put some perspective into this, the common 7" size photo frame are around $100 typical for the china-branded or no-branded models. They can go as low as $88 but I had enough of them. I bought a 7" one from SLS for $120 and when the frame failed after a few weeks, the retailer (a Chinese guy) told me need to send back to China. Free labour but the spare parts and shipping cost $80. He laughed when I told him one year warranty should include parts. And the picture quality is not as good as the branded ones.
So far I am impressed by the Sony and Philips models but these cost almost or above $200 for a 7" model and typically 640x480 resolution. I managed to buy a 2.5" tiny one for $60 recently at Harvey Norman that ran on batteries. Hence if you want 10" and 1024x768, better budget much much higher than $50. Philips has a model with a simulated wooden photo frame look that cost a few hundred dollars.
