Thinking of getting a flash for my Powershot G10, considering from the following choices :
1.Canon 220EX (ETTL, No bounce) http://reviews.usa.canon.com/3798/7271/reviews.htm 2. Metz Mecabiltz 28 AF-30 (ETTL, No Bounce) http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...SG254%26sa%3DN 3. Metz Mecabiltz 28 CS-2 (Slave Type, bracket mount for use with any compact camera) http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...SG254%26sa%3DN 4. Metz Mecabiltz 20 C-2 (bounce head, no ETTL)......(sorry should be NO ETTL in the poll unable to edit?) http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=26799678 5. SUNPAK RD2000 (Bounce, ETTL, w/Wide Angle Flap) http://www.sunpak.jp/english/products/rd2000/index.html 6. Nissin Di28 (ETTL, w/Diffuser) http://www.nissinflash.com/Featured/Di28/ 7. Other, pls specify..... ![]() Please share your experience & advice (I am likely to go for the advantages, but pls also share on the price & where to get from) ![]()

No issue, can still save up & "pain pain" get the "most suitable" or "best" or "ideal"...
![]() (I don't think the difference in price is very extreme, unless the option cost as much as a full-pledge flashgun like 430EX,or my Metz54....unlikely right?) No harm knowing how much ![]()

I would still get a 580ex2 or 430ex2.
Even though the flash is big and heavier and makes the camera unweldy, the bounce capability gives you more options to take nicer photos |

I would use my Metz54 or 380EX if I have them with me, but then I would probably have my 350D dslr with me too.
I have seen someone using G-series with big flashgun, w/coverter lens, locally in indoor environment. That's ok, I don't mind using big flashgun if that's the only flash I have. When travelling light, probably I won't bring a big flash, unless I want to bring my dslr or unless I refused to own an additional flash unit just for G10 use. ...so I am looking for a small one when I use my G10 or even as an additonal "light-weight" option with my dslr. (Although I still like my Metz54 ![]()

actually, the RD2000 is the best fit. It's really not advisable to use big flashes with small camera. I dun actually mount a 580ex on my 20d without a battery grip to balance the weight.
If only the RD2000 comes with swivel...that will be the best |

Without 580EX2 or 430EX2 there is no TTL function right?

If budget has no restriction, go for 580EX II.
Else, you can try this: ![]() Emoblitz flashes. Works great on my S5 IS and 450D. Sub $200. ![]() OT: R u looking for mini-flashes or it is because of budget constraint? Last edited by soons; 14th January 2009 at 10:55 PM. |

Curious... does it work in 450D when using LiveView?

I ever used my metz 54mz4i with the G10, bouncing off walls & ceiling....or with diffuser, power!
The SUNPAK RD2000, quite tiny & not so "rugged".... so might consider a metz 28 or 20.....but metz is hard to find... or maybe 220EX? basically small flash for travelling light....faster flash cycle, a bit more flash power... still "wait & see" mode, maybe don't bother liao... ![]()

Bought my Metz 20 from Song Brothers, SLS 2nd floor. Pocketable size. Can bounce. I think mine has got ETTL... cannot put any filters or whaletale attachment on it. At least I was not successful. Used to rubberband a silicon cutout from my handphone case to soften the light... ugly, yes.. i'm a band-aid sort of person
