Talking Different Flash Diffusers

Hello!

I am getting a SB 600 flash and also thinking of getting a flash diffuser for it to use for when I can't bounce of the ceiling. However, am not sure the results of the different diffusers. Kindly enlighten me with the difference and what is it good at (e.g. Studio, Events, Outdoors, Indoors, Low-Light, etc.)

Some of the list of diffusers I've came across are:
- LightSphere II
- OMNI bounce
- Flip-It
- Whaletail

Do share other diffusers if there are any and its uses. Thank you!

Default Re: Different Flash Diffusers

When you can't bounce off ceiling, use the flash head-on and lower the FEC.

When you want to bounce, however--

LSII: Original is expensive, throws light all around, therefore waste lots of light. I think it's great for group photos though. If you get the Lambency version (pirated) from the mass order forum, you could save money like I did.

Omnibounce: Small, light, small surface area (which also means the light won't exactly be diffused much), but yeah it works if the subject is close to you (say 5m). To me, it's still quite expensive for it's worthiness.

Flip-it: Many photographers love this, and while I haven't used it before, I have used my own DIY acrylic white board for bouncing. It's given me awesome photographs, and I think with the diffuser (ikea bubble wrap for DIY, perhaps?), the photographs can be better (for close-range stuff).

Whaletail: I don't have any experience with this. From the looks of it, it's clumsy, very very expensive if you get the original, and takes time to learn. Throws light all over the room too, so you'd probably not want that happening unless you're doing a group photo / using fisheye lens.

Hope this helps

Cheers,
