Hoya Super HMC/Pro1 Digital series.
B+W may be reputed to be easy to clean, but I've never had a problem with my Hoyas.

I use Hoya Pro 1D and Nikon NC... They came along with the second-hand lenses that I bought, so why not? Both are good.

I own and use Schneider Digital+ (made by parent company of B+W and cost a little more as well), Nikon, Marumi DHG and Kenko Pro-1 (Hoya under another name popular in Japan). If you were to rule out B+W or Schneider Digital+ and Nikon as well because of their relatively higher costs, the next option that I would consider will be the Marumi DHG series. I find them very well made and somewhat easier to clean than the Kenko or Hoya.
I assume you are referring to regular filters only, otherwise you will need to consider Singh Ray or Lee as well but these are for special uses only and are in a different price league. |

here are my findings with a $8.90 Tokina UV filter from Cathay Photo with a 55-250mm. Mounted with tripod with IS on. Looks pretty much the same to me.
![]() with uv filter ![]() with uv filter + flash ![]() without uv filter ![]() without uv filter + flash check the exif data for more info. Considered getting hood but from all the pictures i have taken so far, if use technique to compensate..chances of flare or whatever is unlikely but to each their own.

That is not a good test for filter by shooting figuring with flash. The difference between a good multicoated filter and a normal filter is when u shoot outdoor under direct sunlight or nightscape with lights at the background. A normal filter will flare more easily under the above situation.
Refer to this the difference |

currently using marumi dhg... tested and said to be as good as the hoya pro1 but yet easier to clean(ok by a slight bit only) and cost about if not lower than most shop if ordered from ebay.
![]() next possible migration might be their super dhg series with a hard surface coating that is also tested to be water and oil repellent and said to be scratch resistance tho not tested by anyone yet. best of all, even the 77mm can be gotten at under 60 from ebay. ![]() |
