attempting splash

my first attempt at shooting water splash.....just couldnt get the water splash in perfect shape though...gotta practice more on how to drop the tomato properly..

stobist info : 1 flash at 1/64 power behind subject left side.

well, on the bright side, the lighting and shutter speed are down pat.

agreed that you probably need to find another way to drop the object into the water, the splash is not very photogenic.

thanks bro...yeah...will try something else for the splash...any suggestions anyone?...i saw someone had a wonderful shot of a splash..anyway, i will try again with better acuracy at dropping the tomato next time..

hmm... mebbe an apple is too big? how about a strawberry, if you're looking for a red object. they're smaller, and probably wont splash too much?

ei..thanks....i shot this 2 ft away from a black cloth background...I think that helped clear all the clutter away...then positioned the light so that it doesnt hit any of the backgrond...

nah mine was all pure trial and error. the angle from which i dropped it was straight down since size affects the splash too the subject can vary..mine was small strawberry and cherry tomato dropped from 20cm odd.

LOL! What i think is that maybe you have a deeper and more squarish water container. It might help in the splash part. And ask your family member to help you drop? or use a rig to drop the tomato or grape, this way it will fall straight down and you would be able to tweak how the tomato drops if you use the rig.

OT I was thinking anyone has a water proof camera? It might be quite interesting to photograph the splash from the bottom? Just an idea.

very interesting scientific method bro...Id like to try the "rig" idea....

as for the shot from the bottom..Id have to say you have a creative mind...please let me know if you are able to execute this...I dont have an underwater camera so it would be difficult for me to do this..

using a glass panel? you can always shoot through it but the be careful of the angle of incidence of light to avoid flares and glares

yeah..i was thinking of shooting underneath an aquarium....not too deep though otherwise we lose visibility...hope to try this one day..thanks again sprintist....will visit your gallery soon...hope to learn from you man...
