Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has been ruled out for three weeks with a foot injury.

The French left-back suffered the problem when he crossed for Wayne Rooney's goal in his side's 3-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It was Evra's first game back after a four-match ban imposed by the Football Association for his involvement in a post-match fracas at Stamford Bridge last season.

Now Evra is facing another spell on the sidelines, with him missing tomorrow's Barclays Premier League encounter with Wigan plus four more games including the Carling Cup semi-final against Derby next Tuesday.

In addition United will be without Rio Ferdinand against the Latics on Wednesday.

The central defender went for a scan on a back problem on Monday and while Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed there is no long-term damage Ferdinand does need more rest and will not be considered for Saturday's trip to Bolton either.

In Ferdinand's absence, Jonny Evans will continue in central defence, although Wes Brown is only two weeks away from a comeback after ankle surgery.
Bad news Now no Rio and Evra for the next few weeks.

Next match is against Wigan at OT live on Ch 27 4am this Thurs morning.

I think we got enough coverage for them for the next few weeks! Just hope they will be back against pool and gooners!

None of the other players are able to cover Evra's role.
He's currently one of the best attacking left backs in the world.
Great pace and tough defender, very dangerous while on the attack.
Has great skills on the ball too.
He reminds me of Roberto Carlos in his peak, except that Carlos has a damn venomous shot.

    Man City make Kaka bid

Manchester City have opened talks with Italian side AC Milan over a possible world record transfer bid of £100 million for Brazilian playmaker Kaka.

A City delegation led by chief executive Garry Cook flew to Italy on Tuesday to begin negotiations and are reported to be willing to pay Kaka a weekly wage of £250,000 or £13.65 million per season.

Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi could only claim he was "hopeful" that Kaka would remain at the San Siro and sources claimed that City want the 26-year-old "at all costs".

While there was no official word from Eastlands, Berlusconi's assessment suggests the transfer may go through.

Mediaset, a company owned by Berlusconi, reported: "This time they (Manchester City) are here for real with an official delegation''

"Manchester City want Kaka at all costs and they have shown their cards. Garry Cook, two representatives of Sheik Mansour and Kia Joorabchian, who is acting as a mediator, met with Adriano Galliani and Ernesto Bronzetti (Milan's chief executive and commercial director) and made their offer," said the report.

It has been suggested that the visit of Newcastle United on January 28 has been pencilled in as a potential debut day for the former world footballer of the year, deposed by Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday.

Whilst City remain in a relegation dogfight, the prospect of seeing Kaka in action will excite every Blues fan.

Yet Hughes insists he is not a fan of the transfer window, which could yet lead one of the world's biggest names to his club.

"I don't particularly like the transfer window because you have to wait to address things that could be sorted out a lot more quickly under the old system," Hughes told the Manchester Evening News.

"I am sure there were reasons behind bringing in a transfer window in the first place but I cannot fathom what they were.

"There have been weaknesses in our squad for quite some time and I have not had the opportunity to address them.

"Now we get to January and prices are inflated and the expectations are heightened. I don't think it is a healthy situation."

Cook has now returned to Manchester and will await permission to talk with Kaka. However, one deal that seems to be inching closer is for West Ham's firebrand striker Craig Bellamy.

Hughes has worked with Bellamy twice before and sees the Welshman as a valuable addition to his squad. It seems West Ham are finally on the brink of allowing the player to leave provided City reach their £10 million valuation.

    The problem here is:

They have the dough, but do the world class players want to go to Man City thats the issue.
With the current crop of players at Man City, I would expect them to be in the top 5.
But they are at the bottom half of the table now.

Read in the papers that Roman was worth about 11 billion pounds before the economic crisis and now he is worth about 7 billion hence he isn't spending. 7 billion is still a lot but then losing 4 billion is a massive amount of money. Its literally a truck load of cash!

lol chelsea's dumb Peter Kenyon still say they plan to break even by 2010. Dun think its very possible!

Man City owners are super rich. The richest owners in EPL. 100m is small change aka peanuts to them.

I remember reading somewhere that when the owners 1st anquired about buying the club, they tot it will cost them 500m pounds and that got them excited about buying a big club but when the amount turn out to be 80m, they kinda disappointed.

    Man Utd 1-0 Wigan

Man Utd 2nd place, trailing Liverpool 2 points, with a game in hand.
Rooney on target in the 1st min.
But may be sidelined due to hamstring injury.
