Hi, Does anyone know where i can get the cheapest prices for Sony Lenses, especially the Carl Zeiss ones, or is the price at SonyStyle the cheapest available? Particularly interested in the 16-80.

it's difficult to answer your question without getting some of the friendly shops into trouble..
we can safely say that sony style has the lenses at their recommended selling price. Please refer to here for earlier discussions on sony and their implementations of recommended sale prices. |

I suggest you try to e-quote Cathay, or try to visit MS color and talk to the very friendly staff there.

May I know what is it that the kit lens isn't doing for you? Is it the performance in low light due to the smaller max. aperture size?

the max aperture is if i'm not wrong same as the carl zeiss one. Its more of the softness, especially away from the centre. Its not a good match for a 14mpx sensor imho.

The 18-70mm is from 3.5-5.6 and the 16-80mm is from 3.5-4.5. If it's the sharpness you're going for, then the 16-80mm or the 16-105mm should be able to satisfy your needs.

Well, what do you mean by not sharp? At 100% on the computer screen? If you print a 8"x10", 10"x15" even, is the image still soft? If you shoot at f/8 and print at those sizes, is the image still soft away from the centre? Unless you're taking portraits or macro, I doubt that you can really see the softness away from the centre at those print sizes... or you print very large prints like 13"x19"... but the CZs are definitely better lenses...

My philosophy exactly! I hope you're shooting in RAW then.
