Thread: Quad core vs Dual Core

One thing to note is that applications are also becoming more video card aware. Adobe has redone all their applications so that they all utilize the GPU giving a much different environment. Before, Photoshop was pretty much CPU dependent but they are now using GPU's more extensively in CS4.

Encoding for video is also being pushed over to the GPU which translates to much faster encoding times versus just using CPU (quad or dual). refer to, http://www.badaboomit.com/

Games are pretty much limited to GPU power so if you play games, it's probably worth it to spend more on video versus CPU.

depends on your needs, and crossfire depends on your mobo as well, not all mobo with 2 pciex16 slot for 2x or 3x gfx card is the same.

so its a heavy investment, esp when next batch of graphics card emerge, your 2x crossfire may not even match a single gfx of next gen.

Your power supply will be draining yr power like crazy with 2 VGA cards(latest model).
Yr Quad core overlock don't drain a lot too.

and also the cooling is another issue altogether... i wonder wth is some mobo designer doing...

putting a pcie x1 slot below a pcie x16 for both slots, then ppl make gfx card nowadays minimum using 2x bays. so effectively 2 of the pcie x1 slots are dead.

i think they should start redesigning the mobo, each gfx card have a blank slot below, and put in pcie x1 slots around the sata slot or ram slots for RAID.

Check this rig out for the ultimate in gaming rig. This system was a pet project for a regular podcast show I listen to on tech stuff and this is one sweet overclocked rig for gaming.

It would be a killer for graphic design and photo editing to for sure heh
