    The only other option with ettl is radiopopper, it is not cheap

    Newbie question - Im looking for a simple flash trigger. What am i missing out on without the ETTL function?

    You have to use your flash on full manual. Meaning, set flash power and camera settings on your own. Camera and flash don't do the thinking

    Do a read up at www.radiopopper.com - a first of its kind device that works in conjunction with Speedlite Transmitter that allows eTTL operation with your Speedlite flashguns without limitation of light-of-sight.

    BTW, Speedlite Transmitter is the cheapest way for eTTL for your EX flashes.

    just a note on the RadioPoppers, they're not shipping to anywhere except the US for now..

    Major bummer man. I was hoping to order the RadioPopper Jr set. Only US$99 for a pair of 1xtransmitter and 1 x receiver! Very worth it i think. Made in USA with corresponding reliability.
