Default Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8G - Problem with mounting screws and separation

came across some interesting postings on the internet that the lens mount of the Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8G can come off due to some problems with the screws...

anyone here with the lens have this problem or noticed some problems with the secureness of the mount to the lens?

here are where I read the about the problem...

Photo Net LINK

the same guy in the above link also posted this at his own website saying...

"The 24-70mm f2.8G was impressing as well until it started falling apart. Somehow two of the screws going through the lens mounting ring came loose (the cold, vibration - who knows) resulting in the lens flexing at the base. Nikon UK are adamant this was as a result of an impact. As I know that to be hogwash we shall see if other people have this problem over the course of time. You read it here first. Oddly enough I had a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L that literally fell apart on me in Wadi Rum for the same reason a few years ago so obviously these are cursed focal lengths for me." ~ his link

dpreview also had postings about it and Thom Hogan gave his views there too...

dpreview LINK

another dpreview LINK with a shot of the screws giving problems but to be fair this guy said his D3 and 24-70mm which were in his Tamrac bag rolled off the bed and onto the floor... but isn't the 24-70mm build like a "tank" (it should be for the pro price you pay)? i mean another lady had the shocking experience of her 24-70mm popping out of the mount (even though she swear she was careful to hear for the securing click sound), bounced around and landed some distance away but the lens was working alright... (her ordeal can be read here)

btw the serial number of the 24-70mm whose bag rolled off the bed is 213XXX (LINK)

anyone has any experience to share about this problem?

tks

Yep this all came from Upset Canon users who now know they are 2nd rate photograpers.

If only they had good lenses huh.....

Just get it - you'll love it.
