Lucky my father left on the last few flights out of Bangkok before the airport was shut down. Saw a CNA TV crew and a newspaper reporter at the airport arrival interviewing those whom had just arrived on my father's flight when I picked my father at Changi Airport.

Looks like the Thais are following the footsteps of the Philippines. Hate it when protesters become mobs, resorting to non-peaceful means to settle things and/or topple an administration.

    :Later,
its a chicken and eggs issue. too obedient like our society here also not seem healthy, everything determined by gov, nations follows like small kids...all spoon feed....no freedom to speech...even setup a corner...is meant for display.

thai following the footsteps of Philippine, filipine ppl in the past riot like no body business, price increase riot..homo case riot...little thing riot.? thailand, nah i doubt thai will ever follow filipino footstep...i think thai ppl has been very civilized in term of political sense, if they were not suppressed by thaksin governance for few years and didn resolve their living condition frustration, followed by the corruption case. the demostrator won resort in this violent. thai ppl are generally very forgiving and tolerance against their negative time. they don mess with ppl simply becos their living condition is bad. but i see this time the current gov is indeed failed to deliver to the nation and therefore trigger this turmoil.

    may god bless thailand.

Strategic error. Their own public will now have a bad impression of them. Tourist industry is vital. If they disrupt airport, asking for trouble. So many of their countrymen who depend on tourism to make a living will not like them.
Loosely organised mob spinning out of control.
Anyway, let's have common sense. Can common ordinary folk afford to squat in one place for months just to be a mob? They don't need to work and earn a living?
Who is financing this? Who is behind this?
Who supplied the mob the hand guns seen fired on TV news?

Thai Army Chief: Dissolve Parliament, call new elections

He also called for protestors to leave the airport and other sites. -Agencies

Thailand's powerful army chief Wednesday said Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat must dissolve parliament and call fresh elections, after anti-government protesters occupied Bangkok's main airport.

'We will send him a letter to inform that he must dissolve the house and call new elections,' General Anupong Paojinda told a news conference after an urgent meeting of military and business leaders.

Anupong has insisted many times he will not launch a coup only two years after the military's removal of Thaksin
Shinawatra as prime minister, although he has publicly pressed Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat to stand down.

After masked PAD members broke into the control tower at Bangkok's $4 billion Suvarnabhumi airport, the latest twist in their seizure of the site, a rival pro-government group planned its own street action, raising the prospect of clashes.

'What they have done are terrorist acts,' Jatuporn Prompan, a ruling party politician and leader of the anti-PAD Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship, told a news conference.

A series of small bomb blasts wounded several PAD protesters in the airport vicinity on Wednesday, demonstration leaders said, as chaos ruled inside the terminal, with all flights cancelled.

Anti-government protesters stormed the control tower at Bangkok's main international airport on Wednesday, a day after they stormed the main terminal, forcing airlines to cancel flights.

    Wow...that sucks.... and $$$$ too

I have a family holiday trip to Bangkok mid Dec.... my Brother's 2 young kid will be going (1st time for them). Hope everything would settle soon.... the children are very much looking forward for the trip. Hate to disappoint them......

As tourist, I don't think the protester would harm us in anyway..... but would hate to explain to my boss why I can't get back to work, because the airport is shut down.

IMHO..... its high time the Thai King speak up..... this is getting out of hand

The PAD has some implicit royal backing, according to some quarters.

    Hopefully, some sense will prevail..

Really dun understand why they are protesting. What government do they really want? Already changed 2 liao right? Still not happy. Or, is there any other agenda, esp those anti-government? Do they have a specific government in mind or just taking the advantage to create trouble by one way or another? Terrorists mixed? Sad ah!

My brother working there will be back here for holiday next week, hope can settle by then.

PAD won't care how many times the Govt change... as long as they are not the one in power.

PAD can't win by themselves.... since their support is mostly in Bangkok only. While the PPP have much more support in the Northern part of thailand. Any new election would still put PPP (or under another name) back into power.

PAD knows that.... which is why they are rejecting calls for new polls.

I believed that now.... only the Thai King could settle this issue. HE could tell the protester to return home, the present PM to stepdown, NEW election to be held by early next year.... and if PAD lose again, then they would have to keep their peace.

doubt the king will step out or if that will really help much.
this is a problem created by the mid-upper class onwards.
they probably wun listen to the king, it is a purely money-related issue here.
if fresh elections are called, the PPP will be put back and the PAD will start their nonsence again.
for once, i am hoping for military rule. might actually help to restart everything again.

The protesters seemed like they are having a field day at the airport, considering they have audio equipments to play music with.

Maybe they take the protest as a day off from work?

In many cases, like the protests in manila, the protesters are paid to be there, or have financial backing from the opposition parties.
