    You can try Picasa. It's pretty good. I'm using that too.

    Its digital photography, go wild or something but advised is to edit at Raw stage rather then jpeg stage though.

    but i think i am still at an early stage
    so i think i will have to concentrate on exposure and composition first

    Regardless of the patches, your photos still look washed out, so try adjusting brightness and saturating it a little and see if it turns out better

    Nope...its just that you set to full auto. what you can do is try to play with the different iso settings first to see how much light/noise you get at each iso as darker the environment, higher the iso. After that learning about exposure should be easier.

    I myself am practicing with iso also. below were taken earlier today.
