Best codec for windows vista for rendering

hi everyone. i have this problem with my codecs on my computer. i dont seem to render some formats properly. is there a list of codecs that i should get to fix this irritating problem?

What type of program you are using to render your video? Is all based on the software codecs provided best rendering A/V.
