Default Lens adaptors: reliable or not?

i just bought this lens adaptor (canon body-nikon lens) from orient photo the day before.

shopkeeper told me explicitly that it works for ANY nikon lens.

went to school, tried it out using the school lens on my canon 450D.

the thing got jammed and now i cant detach it from the lens. worst thing is that i cant take any photos because the camera cant detect the lens, giving me a f-stop reading of f00.

what the freak man. pissed off to the maximum right now.

has anyone been in the same situation as me? advice please. -_-

Usually there is a catch u have to lift to remove the lens. and the cam wont be able to detect aperture so shoot in M mode. i have an adapter from there and mine has a small catch u must lift to remove the lens. works fine for me as long as i shoot in M mode

haha. thanks man. just went back to the shop and the dude there was telling me the exact same thing like what u did. haha. but he shot in AP mode. hmm, its tricky and quite hard to get used to.

plus, i have like a dozen cuts all over my fingers now, thanks to me trying to unscrew the ring by myself. *wry laugh* talk about the power of stupidity and sacrificing for ur art. haha.

did you forget to "RTFM"?

maybe next time when you buy something you could ask the salesperson to demonstrate exactly how it works...

Cheap adaptors definitely don't have the confirmation chip, and not all Nikkors have aperture rings.
