Nope! That's why I'm asking if there are contacts in this forum. Anyway I found out through searching the web that there is a dealer in Singapore for Quantum batteries. His name is P.K. Chan and his email is
photopk@singnet.com.sg

In his email he indicated that the following products and prices:

Turbo Z with charger and power cable @ S$814.00 nett.
Turbo with charger and power cable @ $892.50 nett

They do not keep stock of Turbo Z, but does so for Turbo and Turbo 2x2.

From my understanding of the US prices, it seems like the exhange rate for the nett prices are about S$1.82 to 1USD.

I have not found any local agent for the PocketDogs, although it was listed on their website that Cathay Photo is their dealer.

Hope this helps.

Default Quantum Turbo and Flash

Quantum is indeed distributed by PKChan. You can buy it at MS Colour in Ang Mo Kio Central.

I remember someone in clubsnap organised mass order last year.

Hopefully he read it and give some hint on how to order from states with discount from mass orders.

WTH!

That's steep for me man aft converting it frm the US$. I've read about its reviews and it seems that most of the European professionals have already been using it. However, me using a Contax system and am sure that some models are not supporting the Quantum batteries.

Thanks for the info!

The $800 plus are in SINGAPORE dollars and I think they include GST. The US$ prices (from the Quantum website) is between US$450-500.
Thought I clarify, as I'm not sure from your post if you were thinking that the 800 bucks are in USD.

Anyway, just to knowledgebase, there is a difference between some of teh Quantum and PocketDog batteries. Some are high voltage ones and some are low voltage. Most of the time if you read specs like it is 6V or 9V cells, and the flash module plugs into the flash battery compartment directly, most lilkely they are low voltage cells. I think in general these are less expensive (the Underdogs and other Dogs are I think low voltage battery packs that plugs directly to the battery compartment). High voltage cells tend to be more expensive as there are electronics within the battery pack itself (which includes the cells) to convert the low voltages (typically 6-12V) to high voltage compatible with the flash that are being powered. These voltages runs in the order of 200-400V. Only flashes that have high voltage inputs can be powered by these HV battery packs, e.g. 550EX, SB80DX, SB28, 285HV etc. The high voltages charges the flash capacitors directly, by passing the internal voltage conversion circuits.

The above is what I know from reading the various Quantum and PocketDog website and their battery packs specs. I may have miss some facts; please feel free to add or correct.

So when you buy battery packs, be aware of what types you are going after. There is a price difference for LV and HV.

Thanks. Purchased a SD8A for my SB80DX instead of the Quantums.

Default Sd8a

SD8A has limited capacity compare to Quantum.
If you use it only for Nikon Flash alone, it is good enough.
Perhaps it is a better choice in term of price.

Not sure if you read the comments of the SD8A compared with Quantum TurboZ by Moose Peterson at http://www.moose395.net/gear/SD8a.html. In there he said about the SD8A "... using the PowerEx batteries I have experienced the exact same recycling time as I had with the Turbo Z with about 20% more flashes per charge". I think he was referring to the 2200mAh PowerEx NiMH batteries.

You are definitely right price wise; at 3.5X to 4X the price of a SD8A without batteries and charger, the Quantum's are definitely not price competitive.

Hi,

Turbo( the normal one ) compare to Turbo Z, the normal turbo has more capacity than turbo z.

Perhaps a test can prove better, there is no point debating.

I was once user of SD8A, and I find it incomparable to Turbo - in my own experience, I am not sure of other.

If you find it good, congratulate to your good choice

Thanks for the comment.

I agree totally with you that high voltage converted lead-acid cells are the best. I have used the Metz 60CT4 with the its lead acid dry-fit battery before and I'm just say the recycling rate and the flashes per charge is fantastic, much much better than any rechargeable batteries anytime.

All that said, the SD-8A at it current price is too tempting to me to pass up.

Thanks all the same.
