Default Hardware/Software Recommendation for HD Video Editting

Hi

I had been using SD camcorder and Sony Vegas as my video edtting softare. Recently just bought a Panasonic HD camcorder. The files recorded are in .MTS format and cannot be editted using Vegas.

Anyone can reommend a HD software edittor and the PC spec required? Thanks

Hi. Thanks for the replies. Budget around $200? Downloaded the Sony Vegas premium trial and it is able to play the MTS files but the video is jerky on my curret PC, even though it met the specs. Something to do with my video card?

What type of system you are running?

Laptop or Tower PC?

I use DELL Workstation Quad system no problem on playback, effects and encoding

for HD 1920x1080 format, need at least dual core CPU to play it smoothly, the player need to be able to utilise multi cores CPU also.

I don't think anything can edit AVCHD files smoothly at the moment. Vegas lets you see a jerky preview that is OK for basic cuts editing, but it's not much fun compared with DV editing.

If you need to add a lot of effects and filters, it's probably better to convert the footage to an intermediary codec, such as Cineform, Canopus HQ or Lagarith. Takes up a lot of hard disk but it is a lot smoother during editing.

You may want to try converting your AVCHD clips into something more editable.

There is a software called Voltaic HD which may help.
