Is 50D worth the Upgrade?

Have been pondering whether I should ditch my 20D for a 50D......
Does the functional and pic quality improvement worth it and at the sametimes save myself a couple of thousands moola or should I jump straight for the 5D MK II.

Do anyone think that in a year or two the 5D MK II price would dip to say $2.5K (since 5D on launch was <$5K and are now selling at $3.2K)

If so,logically speaking , I am almost spending the same amount of $ (factoring in the selling of 20D)will a FF DSLR as main and a 1.6LF DSLR as backup..
But of course I would not be able to enjoy the wonder of FF then for the time beingAs in reality , its very difficult to have the best of both world....

This are just my thought, hope fellow Cser contribute their thoughts too.

20D to 50D : Yes; if you're skeptical about the 50D then get a 40D.

However, if you have a 40D; I just think it's not that worth it to get a 50D.

If your goal for a 5DMk2 is in 1 years time or slightly more, maybe you should just keep using your 20D or look out for a 2nd hand 40D.

Of course, this is just my opinion. There will be others. Good luck with your choice.

That is pretty much the general market sentiment right now. The 50D is a capable camera, and is a good upgrade point from 20D/30D, but it depends on your FF plans. If you're not going FF soon, the upgrade is worth it.

I'm currently happy with my oldies 20D and have no plan to upgrade to xxD.
When time is good, may be a 5D for me

may can start to invest $$ on some good L lens.
remember !! cam body depreciates very fast.

Thanks for your suggestion. I think it does make sense .... since the main diff of 50D and 40D is only in the pixel count but the pic quality does not improve greatly base on review available on the net. However, I do think that the 50D LCD screen is a big improvement over that of the 40D.That said a saving of $400 is quite significant too.

That's why I have the thought of buying the 50D and then acquire the 5D MK II when its price dip by hopefully $1K or more in a year or two. Then I would have both the benefits of FF as well as 1.6x crop. As for the lenses, I actually own all the 3 F/4Ls lenses which I think would do a decent job when I finally get my hands on the FF DSLR.
