The critical part is not in focus... hard to tell from the pic... it looks like something smeared on the element...

Errr. Fungus damages your lenses, so a lens is never really 100% again after a fungus attack. Lenses should not fog, it could be grease (which can be cleaned).

Hi there...
FYI, this can be either fog or fungus (based on the not that clear photo). If its fog, you could see it having distinctive "droplets" like surface. Could be cleaned if its on accesible groups. Note, some lens are bonded and if this fog goes in between two bonded modular groups then it may be hard to clean. As for fungus, it tends to grow like cob-web structures - more like little minute hair strands. As for cleaning - yes it could be cleaned. If the fungus is on organic coating, then you might get some coating deterioration on one or two layers of the coating - if small patch it should not have much impact on image. If fungus growth are just above the coating then it may be cleaned without any problem. Most of the time(depends on lens) some multicoating may leave some patchy spots as the layers have been etched by the fungus.

unfortunately that is the best pic i can get from my lens... it's kinda hard to gwt really clean and close image since it was inside the rear element (my guess)... hmm...reading from your reply and after another look carefully, i didn't found anything that look like what you wrote... cob-web like structure --- negative,so no fungus.. distinctive "droplets" like surface --- negative,so hopefully no fog either... it does (after a more carefully look at inside the lens) more likely look like what Rashkae said like a grease or something...well hopefully i diagnose right enough... will bring the lens to clean up service this week.. hopefully it'll gone... thx all for your reply... ![]() |
