faster then downloading from camera. in case you need to use the camera remote function, are you using XP, Vista or OSX?

good point, that. hope it's because you didn't turn on the camera rather than your laptop/camera being faulty
do get a SDHC reader. card readers are much faster at transferring files. and it's software, not softwareS.

Frankly speaking is that you maybe have not switch on you camera and the laptop cannot detach your camera and getting a card reader is much safer to download the pictures rather than from camera as the camera can be infected by virus that you are unaware of.

I have the same prob. Do not know how to solve it. It worked before,
as I downloaded pic. before. Now getting the file directly from SDHC via a reader. Uninstall and reinstall the software did not help. ![]() Not sure about virus - but a threat in Photo.net said it is unlikely for the camera to have virus. The cable connection is needed to upgrade the firmware. Hope someone can help. Thank you. ![]() |

Upgrading firmware of canon requires a card of 2gb, that's all.
No need for any cable. As TS did not reply on this, I want to ask you, did you try on another computer as suggested earlier to see if it worked? |

upgrade firmware?
just put the new firmware inside the memory card and then insert into camera which will do the rest automatically.

Camera menu.
Communication option set to PC connection, not Print/PTP. Hope it helps. |

Some time it take awhile before the EOS utility screen appear on the computer screen. This is especially when there is alot of file in your memory card. check whether the red light on the camera is blinking.
It happened to my 400D when I first got it a year ago. Spend so much time trouble shooting only to realise that it is actually working except that it is a bit slow. Hope this 5cents tip can be of help to you. |

Beside this, any virus that might be able to 'jump' to the camera will not need a direct connection. The transfer per USB card reader works as well. But another possibility is much more realistic: transferring viruses via memory card between computers. This is possible when people share memory cards or when you give a card to Internet cafe for printing or creating backup CDs. If the shop's PC is infected you might get an 'add-on'. It won't affect the camera but your PC at home is at risk. |

Then 'google search' for SDHC driver. Found one. Installed and now can read. You might want to try the same way. Hope this is helpful. ![]() |

Try to download and install the TWAIN driver from canon website. Maybe it'll work.
