Default 3rd Party or Longer Flash extension cord

Dear all CSer's, especially Canon Users!

Just bought my 430EX II, but really like it to shine not on the top of the camera body...

Are there any 3rd party (aka cheaper) flash extension cord available in sg?

And are there any extension cords that are longer, say 1.5m to 3m?

Thanks for any advice!

You could try triggers such as those found here
http://store.tagotech.com/index.php?...sort=3a&page=3

relatively cheap.

you have to be more specific, are you are looking for a TTL cord or just a PC sync cord?

TTL cord is very expensive, and usually very short, just key "compatible TTL cord" in Google you should be able to found it in ebay.

if you looking for a longer one, it cost more then the Canon original.

PC sync cord is cheaper, you can get it from many major camera stores, from 1.5m to 3m to even longer length.

btw, IIRC, 430 you need a hotshoe adaptor to connect the flash and the PC sync cord, not sure whether your camera does has a PC sync terminal?

both ur camera and flash has no pc port, so u need this. (this pic show d60, which has pc port).

but with this set up, you loose auto flash metering, so u need to know the guide no at various zoom head position, than calculate either the aperture setting or flash power.

or u can use a flash meter to determine the correct aperture.

Thanks very much for the information!

Looking for ETTL cord. Seems I can only keep one between the budget and length!

Anyway, may search for some "山寨" products next time back to China...

Are you using it for studio or event?

You can DIY an extension. Some links:

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=123662
Basically, a DIY extensions consists of two pairs of coupling (male/female plug) and a piece of cabling. Cut the ETTL extension cord in the middle, don't touch the flash shoe or terminal. Solder one plug to each end (one male, one female). By this you can still use the cord in its original length. Solder the other plugs to the extension cord (Cat5 network cable is recommended due to it's quality, but might be a bit stiff). Now you can insert the extension into the original cord when you need more length. Don't use the cheapest cable and plugs, good contacts are important for the ETTL communication.
If you don't want ETTL but just a flash trigger I recommend using the wireless triggers.

There was a somewhat similar thread not too long ago. You may find some of the discussion there useful as well. http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=435837
