YES indeed, higher resolution compensates for noise.
DPREVIEW gets it so wrong by pixel peeping, which is only valid if you are comparing cameras of the same resolution. Even though zooming in 100% at pixel level would seem to suggest higher noise levels for a 20MP sensor vs a 6MP sensor, once you normalise and view at picture level, they could be the same, or the 20MP may actually be less noisy! |
