Red face 10D EOL rumors.

Don't know real or not... be there's been rumors on DPReview's & Rob Galbraith's forums, that the 10D has been EOL?

Well when I got my D60 back in early January, there's no problem getting it here in SG as well but shortage in US & UK... anyway, no one knows what's next—Canon is not very predictable these days

This is so scary man.... And I thot digital cams are volatile on their own... If the rumour is true, Canon is really a catalyst to the game.

Come to think of it, with the 6MP 300D on its way and a much rumoured 3D, the exitence of a 10D indeed feels redundant, based on Canon's eccentric marketing strategy.

bear in mind the market in singapore is very tiny compare to europe, america and japan.

anyone knows wat the shelf life for the D30 and D60 were when they first came out? so roughly, that would be the gauge for hte shelf life of the 10D, +/- 2mths or so...

Not really. 10D is suppose to be in between consumer DSLR (300D) and the 1D (or the rumoured 3D), which is a much higher end DSLR. Unless the rumoured 3D is going to have another shocking price, otherwise I don't think 10D is reduntant.

I believe that the D60 was announced Mar 2002 and came to market around June 2002. They stopped manufacturing it sometime around Dec 02/Jan 03. The 10D was announced in Feb 03 and on sale by mid Mar 03 (I revised my post after seaching the forum). Like I had said before, the D60 is just a paid beta for the 10D.

By your estimation, the EOL will be end of the year or by CNY.

The problem is, from the various post which seems to be explain that the 300D's weakpoint (cf 10D) is no big deal. THAT is the issue. Although the 300D will bring in more sales for Canon, it will cannablize the sales of 10D. It is "good enough" for the amateurs who don't need the advance feature or those who thinks that these advance features are not worth the value (ie extra $$$ to get it)

If this is true, Programmers in Adobe Photoshop must be pulling out all their hairs. Version 8 is supposed to take care of 10D raw files, yet before it is out, 10D is going EOL. Then they have to take care of another new camera's RAW.

Canon USA's rep has confirmed on Rob Galbraith's forum site that 10D is in no danger of being discontinued.... heng lah!

"The EOS 10D remains current in our line-up. It is in no danger of being discontinued at the present time. It will definitely remain current through the rest of this year and well into 2004. I can't be more precise than that, and I will have no further comment on this issue.
