Default Focusing towards the foreground or background yields deeper DOP ?

Which yields a deeper DOP, focusing in the foreground or background ? I faced this problem just yesterday while photographing a huge field of flowers. I used an aperture of around f16, and I didnt know where exactly to focus. I do know that focusing the foregrd and backgrd yield different DOP. I forgot which though, that has a deeper DOP.

    WTF is WTF?

OK, seriously, from what I can remember, the COC is 1/3 in front of the point of focus and 2/3 behind it. So you should focus nearer the foreground.

As complexity rises, precise statements lose meaning and meaningful statements lose precision.
