Default Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/85 ZE review

Hi all,

Interesting read:

http://www.dcfever.com/news/readnews.php?id=2524

What's unique about this portrait lens is that although it's manual focus only, it's electronic actually works with Canon's so that the chosen focusing point actually lights up!

Will the IQ of this lens be as good as 85L?
Hope to see more review of this lens.

Hello all, i am a newcomers. I think that new zeiss for nikon is made by cosina, is the zeiss for canon also made by them? For the personal use, i still prefer to use the canon 85 L rather than this lens (maybe because my poor eyes so i can use the AF). hehehe...

I've heard my friend said that zeiss 85 f1.4 has a better bokeh and colour than the nikon has (he put in his Nikon D3), i think it will be the same result with the canon's.

The reviewer did mention this lens is not the last word in terms of absolute sharpness but it's not far behind from the best in the market either, especially when stopped down 1 to 2 values.

Furthermore, the reviewer did stress that due to the lens's unique glass construction and that it's not a macro lens, readers should not judge it's sharpness base on this focusing test (at it's closest focusing distance of 1m).

What the reviewer liked about this lens is that it is a 'specialist' portrait lens:

1. It's a little warmer. Hence, producing more pleasing skin colour tones
2. It has one aperture blade more than the Canon 85L and the bokeh shows very smooth gradations

The end results are rich colour renditions and very nice bokeh that brings up the subject.
