Default Canon REBEL KISS (japan) VS 300D DIFFERENCE!!!

hi guys, am in tokyo now, and having spent 1 hr fiddlign with the REBEL KISS at the canon service station in shinjuku, i realised that the REBEL KISS is not the same as the 300D.

The 2 main differences are:

1. Rebel KISS is made in JAPAN, whilst 300D is made in TAIWAN

2. REBEL KISS comes with a USM!! (i repeat, USM) version of the 18-55. THis lens is also made in japan.
300D comes with NON USM 18-55, and not sure if that is made in japan either..

I know for sure its USM becoz its PRINTED on the side of the lens, and u can hear the silent AF sounds..

So far, after picking up the 10D vs REBEL kiss countless times,

Rebel is nice and LIGHT... viewfinder slightly smaller and dimmer...

AF SPEED is same, and pic quality supposedly the same too...

the auto AI SERVO is also not bad all. People are complaining that the lack of choice btw AI FOCUS and One shot, will coz "recomposing to **** up"..

But the AI FOCUS of the rebel is actually not bad at all.. It actually takes quiet a significant amt of movement b4 the AISERVO kicks in.... so recomposing after focus lock for portarit shots is no problem...

18-55 lens is not bad as well, (usm version)... Unlike the 17-40 however, u are not allowed to MF in AF mode....(gears will jam)

Retailing at 140000 (1960SING) for the USM EFS and the body, it is probably slightly more exp than the 300D, but i think its worth it for a JAPAN MADE cam/lens + the REal USM....

BTW i saw some store with a sign for 10D saying "made in malaysia"

ar there even such made in malaysia 10dS? or is it the lens it is talking abt....

hi kng, i saw it at the canon service station.. they got all the camera:s there for demonstaration... for the first time i handled 1D and 1DS... WAH SUPERB MAN!!!

but SUPER SUPER DUPER HEAVY....

retail only starts at 09/20
most camera shops will sell... down here there is very little price difference btw shops... all will probably retail at 140000 yen..

no bargaining too... u shd go for the duty free models, that way u can tax refund and international warranty i think...

Wahh... 140,000 yen = S$2086 (cos now 100 yen = S$1.49).
With 5% tax refund, works out to S$1982! Wonder how that wld compare with singapore price...

Sprockett, rebel kiss got black colour or not??

Wah sprockett, zhun bo. I've seen many posts regarding the 300D from you, so I know you're quite siao on about the camera, but to go all the way to Tokyo... kekeke. A for effort man.

As posted on other forums, it has been noted that the Japanese usually keep the best stuff for themselves (ef-s with USM). Nothing new, after all Canon is from Japan, so just some benefits for their own people. Also Japanese technology is always a few steps above compared to rest of the world, so limiting the ef-s w/USM to the KISS would be a way of preserving ther tech elitist status.

Good luck with the camera hunt dude.

Default Welcome to the Electronics Industry......

Hi there.....

What you see labelled as Made in Japan....or Made in Taiwan....or Made in GOD-KNOWS-WHERE.......is a big hoo-haaa-bull-!!!

You CANNOT trust these label anymore. These label is based on the some last processes they do onto their camera. Just sticking some parts in Japan and have the camera made in China will still eligible for the "MADE iN JAPAN" logo/label.....so be careful........

Its a big ball game !!!!!....and you are me are just one of those vulnerable ones to be CON big time.....by these big players.......

Have heard news + gossips that the PCBs in the 300D could be the same as the 10D accept for some unloaded components or ASICs variants......

rgds,
msj

Can the camera shops here bring in those KISS instead of the 300D then?

Hi guys, contrary to the picture, this cam is REALLY made in japan... i will go down to the canon service centre with my CF card... and hopefully i can use rebel kiss 1 to take foto of rebel kiss 2 (hopefully they allow ahhaha)

Sorry, not hear teh silent af sounds lah... more of 'feel' it.....

hopefully i can take foto of the Ultrasonic logo + made in japan sticker (which includes serial no.)

Apparently, the MSRP of the REBEL KISS is more exp than the US retail of the 300D, perhaps coz the rebel kiss is made in japan.... and includes USM

and no lah, i didnt travel to japan just to see the rebel kiss lah... was already planning to go and 'shun bian' check out rebel kiss... good thing abt shops here is that u can play and touch and feel the entire DSLR ranges without even needing to feel pressure to buy... the display sets are out there in the open...

nikon D100 D1H also quite good leh.. first time i ever touch them...
next try is the KODAK pro14n ehehee

ok hopefully i:ll be back with pics....

Sprockett, you have made a very interesting point ..especially to those who aims for 300D (Kiss Digital-Japan Verison)

I Have checked on Canon Japan about the Kiss Digital News released .(I can't read Japanese anyway.)

This set does included the USM version of EF-S 18-55
on the EF-S Lens page , aslo Shown the EF-S 18-55 USM Lens Spec.

http://cweb.canon.jp/newsrelease/2003-08/pr_kissd.html

While on the Canon Au website, The EF-S 18-55 is a "NON" USM..
Interesting....

Or it's just the way Canon marketting this product...

it not uncommon that goods that are sold in japan are made in japan. Japan are accountable for big markets in the world. btw i am working in a japanese firm manufacturing digital imaging related product, so i know how much japanese care for themselves. many japanese branded products look similar ouside but the inside components are different.
