Haha. The 14-54mm is suprising, although I'm fine with my old 14-54mm.
Anyone saw this?

Doesn't look too bad. The only thing that entices me is the fast AF and flip out LCD screen. The creative art whatever is a non-issue for me. Need to know more about that multi-exposure mode.
But other than that, probably sticking to my 510 until something more worth while comes along. |

agree with you on this, but still,I'd rather wait for E-3's replacement, the 14-54mk II is interesting though, looks like its SWD brothers, yet it doesn't seem to have the SWD built into it.

As it stands now, it depends on which you value more. The weather-proofing or the creative arts thing. With a RRP higher than the E-3 and me not valuing that creative arts thing much, I'll go for the E-3 if I had to buy one.

The next E-?5 will prob be due in ? Oct 2009 earliest? Or even later if they follow the same e1 to E3 cycle.
And when it comes out it'll prob cost closer to $3K body alone. This E30 is still less than $2K when it starts selling. The E520 ... or replacement ?E530 body will be closer to $1K so I think Oly got the pricing quite well "spaced" out. There will always those who'll buy the most expensive. and those who'll buy the cheapest. I see this E30 as a decent middle ground in terms of price versus features, i.e. value. |

I will find it difficult to buy a technological toy that is more than 1 1/2 years old versus a new one when this baby starts selling in 2009 if both have nearly equivalent features and has about the same price .... just IMHO ![]() |

Weather sealing is great but there is definitely a price to pay for it.
Face it, when the weather is bad, most times the light is bad, too. Except for sports and maybe other more specialised field, most of us will do not need weather sealing. I could buy the E3 but did not because it was too bulky and heavy. Even though I would have love the weather sealing feature. If this E30 is only slightly larger than the E520, I'll definitely strongly consider getting it. And if the IQ is superior to the E3 ...... I actually have a friend who have access to both the D300 and the E420 .... and she is loving the E420 more and more every day ... just for the sheer size of it all ![]() |
