I recently got a M42 adapter for my K100D for use with a Jupiter 9 85mm f2. I screw on the adapter to the lens and attach this to the camera body.
All this is fine and no dreaded “adapter stuck” issue. Instead my woes are from the fact that the adapter is turning within the camera mounting when I make adjustments on the lens (ie. Focusing, aperture adj). This is the adapter I'm using (btw, it does focus to infinity) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=200262371977 Is the issue I'm facing (ie. adapter turning in the camera body) a 'fact of life'? Will the original Pentax adapter help? Can I get better adapters (Pentax or other) here in SGP? Thx in advance. |

No it is not suppose to be like this. For m42-k adapter, I can only recommend Pentax original. There is a metal clip u press to disengage the adapter. Once it's there, you can unscrew and screw other m42 lens into the body. The cheap adapter has no metal clip so u need to hold the lens to the camera body and do the focusing. Some other adapter have the metal clip thing but need to use something provided with the adapter to disengage quite troublesome. The original one can use bare finger to remove the adapter from body.
I saw camera workshop selling the old new stock of adapter about $30 last month if I remember correctly. Hope they are still available. |

Pretty hard to find genuine pentax ones nowadays i think.
I got mine at Fotographix at Chinatown point . Tel 62237217. Do call before you go down as he runs a one-man show and may not be at the shop all the time. It's the one with the metal catch, comes with the tool for removal as well. So far it works fine. |

I think the original one does come with a tool, but not necessary to use it to remove.
At least that was my experience with two adaptors that were sold/given to me by fellow Pentaxians, who said they were the real deal. Clumsy me broke off the metal clip the first time I used it... sigh. |

![]() That's what I thought as well, but both told me that theirs was the original one. The words on the adaptor are not PENTAX Japan, but things like PK/M42, etc. Don't want to make accusations at them, but perhaps you may be right. |

Sorry wasn't clear in my prev post. The adapter sold by fotographix is not the genuine one, that's why it comes with a tool. Functionally it works and can focus to infinity.
However it's strange that it comes in the exact same green ziploc like the real mccoy. ![]() |

I know because I have 3 of these adapters. 1 made for russian camera, 1 japan OEM and the original Asahi Pentax and been using them for many years.
TCW have few pieces of the original one. Go check out if they are still available, very hard to find and engineer precisely to fit the camera. Forget about the OEM one. Last edited by FIR; 4th November 2008 at 09:41 AM. |

Can someone pls confirm that the original Pentax one has no removal tool and that the words are definitely PENTAX on the top and JAPAN on the bottom?
Was sold a "Genuine Pentax adapter from Japan" that had a tool and bears different wordings, and the seller told me not to try to cheat him and to contact Pentax Japan to confirm. -____- |

The original Pentax adaptor has no dismounting tool. It has the PENTAX or ASAHI PENTAX (old version) on top and JAPAN on bottom.

Thanks for the replies.
I was only wondering if there would be a more secure fit using other/original adapters. Anyway, the good news is that I tried again last night, this time following the instructions for the Pentax adapter. This is to mount adapter on camera body, then screw on lens. I had done it the "smart" way before this and screwed on the adapter before mounting on the camera. It seemed to help, as the lens was a bit more secure when I turned the focus ring of the lens Jupiter 9. I also turned the focus ring slowly and carefully this time round. As it was already dark, I just grabbed the most available 'model' and put it under the table lamp. ![]() ![]() I'll still look for the recommended adapters a TCW and Fotografix, just to be sure they make a diff. Thx for the replies. |

The original ones don't come w/ a tool, just the adapter. 'Cause you don't need a tool to remove them from the camera body, just your finger tips will do the job The very earlier version has ASAHI PENTAX marked on top and JAPAN at the bottom, and the marks are in black color. It comes in carton box like this one: ![]() The later version has PENTAX on top and JAPAN at bottom, marks are in either black or white color. It comes in green plastic bag like these: ![]() ![]() As to the green ziploc bags, they are standard bags for many small Pentax accessories. Fotografix might have some of them left over from previous sales ... Or BTW, don't worry about the quality of those sold from Fotografix. They are very well built and fit better than the original ones actually. The original ones, especially the later version, is slightly loose when mounted on the camera. But those from Fotografix are very tight. I've used all of these, the one I like the most is the one from Fotografix ![]() |

today, even the Louis V can be fake, who care, just use them. make sure it focus at infinity and take happiness of shooting, when people focus too much on equipments, there will be lots of troubles and keep changing the gears.

1. press and glue the aperture pin so it'd be 'pressed' all the time 2. get an adapter which can press the aperture pin when mounted, like those from Kindai And I agree, those adapters from Kindai are the best quality ones. But they cost twice as much as an original Pentax one does ![]() |
