Not sure why they don't have Tiff file recording for the E3 where most E series DSLR do have?

My guess is that they believe that RAW file processing has come to a point where it's no longer necessary to provide TIFF from the camera itself and that they could use the firmware space for something else.

Yup. RAW converters today can generate TIFF files from RAW so easily. I stopped shooting in TIFF for a while now ever since RAW converter applications have improved so much.

Guess they used the firmware space for the code to compress the raw file. |

From here Uncompressed TIFF 14.1 3 channels of 8 bits Uncompressed 12-bit RAW 7.7 1 channel of 12 bits Compressed TIFF 6.0 Lossless compression Compressed 12-bit RAW 4.3 Nearly lossless compression With RAW, you can process to TIFF if you so incline. In your PC where space is not as limited as the in-camera memory card. With TIFF, you can't make RAW so the answer is pretty clear here. |
