I understand that there's 2 different kind of lense type.
The new lense comes with Built-in-Motor. The other one .. not that sure. In terms of PQ and sharpness, which one of this two gives overall performance ... ![]() |

I think you are talking abt the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 right?
For the 1 with built-in motor is for Nikon DX camera if I'm not wrong.

It's 17-50 only. The official name is AF17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II LD Aspherical
Check here for the details regarding Nikon mount: http://www.tamron.com/about/updates_nikon.asp There are two versions of the same lens, one with built-in AF motor and one without any AF motor. Depending on your model of Nikon camera you need to select the right model, otherwise you are restricted to manual focus. If the difference is only the AF motor why do you suspect differences in the performance? Check the usual review pages and see if they report anything. |

I have the same question since reviews done are probably on the old version. I wouldn't rule out that the MTF and the rest will be the same since mechanically there will be some changes to insert a motor.

have read few reviews for I can't recall where.
and most of them users prefer more to the old version rather than the one with in built-in-motor. is there any CSers using the old lense of 17-50 f2.8 ? ... |

I have used both versions. Other than the focusing speed (the one with the built-in motor is slower), I have not noticed any difference in IQ or sharpness.
