It is because they got built-up their lens tech from Leica, and "MOIS" is a lens shift technology & not a sensor shift technology...

The G1 uses 4/3-standard lenses, and are interchangeable just like SLRs.

The reason why it is not an classified as an SLR is because it doesn't have a mirror box and prism setup allowing you to see through the lens. The G1 employs an electronic viewfinder - essentially a mini-LCD screen displaying what the sensor "sees".

Curious... what is the advantage of the G1 compared to a typical dslr?

I think it is quite different.

From the reviews, it uses a contrast based AF which is supposedly leaps and bounds better than the older contrast based AF.

Using the image sensor info for AF allows u a lot of flexibilty I think as u can placed the points anywhere and theoretically track much better. real life dunno lah but it is very interesting.

The Electronic viewfinder is supposedly very big and bright too.

The version coming out next year will support full HD video. Better wait if you can otherwise you may kick yourself when the new model comes out and the price of this tumbles!

since i would treat this as a light, travel camera, it won't be my ultimate hybrid until it can do video - that's for the next model! akan datang!
