Default Potw

I think it is better to leave out the name of the photographer before the voting ends. This would be more fair to make sure that the vote is biased.

Good idea...the name of the shooter may influence one's opinion, however you may notice that most the pictures bore the shooters name...any suggestions?

If the policy of POTW is not to review the name of the photographers/contestant before the voting ends, then the forum moderator can definitely request the participant to send in photo/picture WITHTOUT any signature or name on the picture itself.

I am sure those who participate wouldn't mind removing their name from the pictures. They can either choose to send in non-signing pictures, or picture with ugly black strip (blacken by the moderator).

Actually it might be more fun to have weekly "theme" contests, where a theme is identified, and clubsnappers submit pictures based on that theme. It might introduce more variety in content as well, rather than simply wildlife pictures winning POTW all the time (OK I'm jealous, but never mind. I just became a Friend of the Zoo this week!).

Points can be given for innovativeness as well as technical excellence, in depicting the theme of the picture. Here are some suggested themes off the top of my head:

1. Tudungs (controversial)
2. War
3. Leaves
4. Old folks
5. Urban
6. Street photography (wonder why I thought of this?)
7. Humour
8. Motion
9. Vehicles
10. Shops

You get the idea.

StreetShooter, I like your suggestion, however, I have a problem to present to you. Right now, at any one time, there's only about forty photographers actively participating in the forums. At which, probably only twenty shoot very actively. Like what I've mentioned in the other thread, unless there's a huge upswing in the amount of postings of photos be it quality or quantity (by the law of averages, we're sure to get more quality shots), we are unable to either slot POTW into either categories, or introduce various themes for the week.

However, we're continously looking into ways of improving POTW. Your suggestion will definitely be considered. In fact, I dare say that it'll probably be incorporated.

weekly theme contests might be too taxing... how about monthly or quarterly instead?

Streetshooter got me into thinking... I was participating in minolta talk's (dpreview) photo assignments previously until the school decide that students have too much time and throw me tonnes of work...Back on track, why not we have something similar here? have some themes and tittles so that some of the aimless souls (like me) have something to shoot? And this could boost the amount of photos posted in our galleries.......

I support that idea. In one of the forums that I went to, such a contest is called "Photo Hunt". They are having that despite the fact they only have ard 100 members.

Are you talking about 100 active members or 100 registered members? There's a huge difference.

100+ registered members. Max 3 submissions for each member for each hunt. I think only ard 10+ active members. They really take the effort to go take shots for the hunt.

We'll take your suggestions into consideration, but no promises that we'll take it!

How about we allow members of clubsnap to take part in POTW instead of having members nominating for pictures which they think are good.

We can turn POTW into a contest with or without prizes and allow members to send in their best photo to take part to spice it up. Every member can send in their photo which they think is their best limited to one per week and leave the rest to the moderators to select the 5 photos for members to vote.

I think this is much better than allowing other members to nominate for other's photos. This will surely make POTW more challenging and good photos will not be unrecognise should no one nominate for them.

The submission of entry by oneself sounds good. Lemme float it past the rest of the guys.

Everyone and ANYONE is free to and most welcome to nominate photos. More photos getting nominated will also mean the final 5 to emerge for ClubSNAP public polls will most likely be of higher quality.
(Of course, don't nominate a photo just for the sake of nominating.)
